The JAZZNIGHTS name serves three main purposes: The ethos of JAZZNIGHTS as a whole is to actively create enjoyable and interesting live music scenarios, to introduce live music to new venues and to feature world class musicians whilst also enabling newer artists onto the scene. For well over 40 years, Dave has been running & hosting an exciting array of unique jazz based events with a wide and varied roster of musicians and artists. At the same time discovering and featuring some of the most interesting venues in the UK and Europe all being the main activities of ex BBC sound man and draught Guinness conniseur Dave Silk. More info on Dave Silk With a lifetime of double bass playing and live music management together with over 30 years of BBC Television sound and lighting experience, rarely do you get the chance to have your musical requirements run by someone experienced both on and off stage. This is undoubtably where Dave Silk's approach scores, everything is done out of the office! One such event that illustrates the scope of a Dave Silk/JAZZZNIGHTS production was a syncronised performance over the skies of Maritime Greenwich, London; A 'Jazz Ballet in the Sky' with aerobatic stunt planes loop the looping to the sound of live music performed by many musicians in The Royal Naval College and on the roof of the famous river-fronted Trafalgar Tavern pub, all narrated and broadcasted on radio to great effect. Dave Silk co-founded the Riverfront Jazz Festival which has taken place in Greenwich every year, with a formidable 25 year legacy.
To this day JAZZNIGHTS has a healthy client list of some of London's leading restaurants, public houses, clubs, hotels, corporate firms, festivals, river boats, museums, golf clubs, churches, borough councils and charitable organisations as well as many individual clients who have required live music for weddings, family celebrations and parties. JAZZNIGHTS is one of the official suppliers of live music to the Virgin London Marathon (for the past 6 years as the Flora London Marathon), the newer BUPA city Marathon and the Adidas Marathon in Hyde Park. Specialising in large one-off events to relatively smaller scale residencies, Dave Silk & JAZZNIGHTS can fulfill almost any event, launch or function you have in mind, within budget and on time. If you are interested in Dave Silk assisting you or your business musically, attending a night at Mycenae House is an ideal place to start. Mycenae House musical nights take place on Mondays in Blackheath at 8.30pm with a licensed bar (closed on Bank Holidays). Click here to view more on Mycenae House

Jump to top The 'JAZZNIGHTS' name was originally the brainchild of Sandra Silk, Dave Silk's 2nd wife who passed away to cancer, who, during her time contributed a great deal to promoting her husband's events and also her favourite live jazz and folk events within the community and on her site at www.jazznights.co.uk This current version of JAZZNIGHTS.co.uk aims to continue the legacy of Sandra's original vision to promote and keep a record of many of the extraordinary gigs that often take place. The Gigs Archive section was set in 2011 and is a useful log of gigs that have taken place to date. In addition to this website, a printed version of JAZZNIGHTS is occasionally and sporadically released featuring a range of events usually focussing on jazz festivals.
An introduction to Mycenae House One of the centre pieces of Dave Silk's musical undertakings is Mycenae House which has been running solidly for nearly 20 years on Monday nights and can been visited on a weekly basis in Blackheath. Being more of a performance class more than a straight jam session, this little known event hosted by Dave Silk offers a unique experience of fusing legendary and experienced musos together with first time and amateur performers, all improvised by candlelight. With audience members and perfromers spanning young and old, it's a true melting pot for musicians, poets, artists and those wishing to perform. With Dave Silk as the ringleader the night is renowed for creating a good natured, welcoming atmosphere for all, where musical spontaneity and self expression are encouraged resulting in many humurous and often outstanding moments! The setting for Mycenae House is an ex covent within enchanting grounds in Blackheath which has seen hundreds of musicians perform there over the years. The house band regularly features the brilliant Phil Mead on piano and Dave Silk on bass amongst others.
